Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver
Every year, tuberculosis (TB) affects millions of people worldwide, leaving a devastating impact on communities. Despite being preventable and curable, it remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases.
In 2023, in the Region of the Americas:
This year, World TB Day highlights the urgency of action. Countries have committed to accelerating the response and ensuring universal access to TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. However, progress remains insufficient, and TB continues to disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations.
Despite the challenges, there is hope. New technologies and innovations can help change the course of TB:
AI-assisted digital radiology, a powerful tool to enhance early detection in high-risk and hard-to-reach populations.
Rapid molecular tests, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis.
Shorter, fully oral treatments, supported by telemedicine to improve adherence and patient outcomes.
With renewed commitment and collaboration, we can make significant strides toward ending TB and saving lives. Now is the time to act with determination to achieve elimination goals.
Act now. Invest now. Deliver now!
Together, yes! We can end TB.
Key Messages
Commitment
At the 2023 UN High-Level Meeting on TB, world leaders pledged to strengthen national strategies, implement WHO policies, and secure sufficient funding. Now, it is time to turn those commitments into real action.
Investment
We cannot eliminate TB without adequate funding. Investing in shorter treatments, rapid molecular testing, and innovative strategies鈥攕uch as AI-assisted digital radiology鈥攊s crucial for active case detection and early diagnosis.
Delivery
Fulfilling these commitments means expanding access to quality interventions, including timely diagnosis, preventive treatment, and specialized care, particularly for drug-resistant TB. Success depends on community action and cross-sector collaboration.
